Inspired by the futuristic racing video game “Wipe’out”, scientists at the Japan Institute of Science and Technology created a real-life model race track with liquid nitrogen cooled model ships which, as a result of the Meissner effect, are placed in a state of quantum levitation, permitting them to move around the track in mid-air.

The future of mobile phones and tablet computers is paper thin and transparent flexible AMOLED displays that can bend and twist without breaking and without warping the image displayed. And with the University of Michigan’s experiments with metal-free organic phosphorescent materials, the future of mobile devices looks amazing.
